    Old Old Mining District

    Joy Ghost Town

Joy was settled in 1872 as the center of the Detroit mining district by Harry Joy (one of the founders of the Package Motor Company) and Charles Howard. Significant gold, silver, manganese and copper were extracted from the area. Today, Joy is a ghost town that contains some remnants of buildings and mining equipment. A single grave of 19 year old Matt Evans still remains and is located near the 4 way intersection in Joy.

Excellent camp spots dot the ghost town and sandy desert terrain that make for fun ATV riding. Hidden trails lace the lower hills – perfect for exploring.
